Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country is ready for a role in global security, in an address Saturday marking the country's Army Day.
Mr. Ahmadinejad said Iran's armed forces guarantee security in the region, and are ready for a role establishing security in different parts of the world.
Iran's Student News Agency reported the president touted Iran's advanced equipment and defense facilities. He is also quoted as saying Iran is the most powerful nation in the region, and saying the country's enemies have lost the courage to threaten Iran.
Iran and the West are at odds over Tehran's nuclear work, which some countries believe may have a military component. Iran says its atomic program is for peaceful, civilian use.
