Iran, Brazil, Turkey Holding Talks on Nuclear Plan
VOA, July 24, 2010
Iran says Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will meet with his Turkish and Brazilian counterparts Sunday to discuss a nuclear fuel swap proposal.
Tehran says the foreign ministers will meet in Turkey to discuss a deal brokered in May as the U.N. moved toward imposing new sanctions on Iran.
Under the plan, Iran would send some of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for higher-grade nuclear fuel for a medical research reactor.
The proposal has been sidelined since the U.N. imposed a fourth round of sanctions in June and the United States and European Union announced plans for additional penalties.
Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful. Western nations suspect Tehran is trying to build nuclear weapons.
