Strong Earthquake Shakes Indonesia

Indonesia's disaster management agency says at least six people are dead after a powerful earthquake struck off the archipelago's coast Wednesday.  

The earthquake struck in the waters off the main island of Java, about about 200 kilometers south-southeast of the capital of Jakarta.  The earthquake had a depth of nearly 62 kilometers.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially estimated the quake at a 7.4 magnitude, but has since downgraded it to a 7.0.

The Pacific Tsunami Center in Hawaii issued a tsunami warning that was lifted after no large waves were spotted.

The earthquake caused buildings to shake in Jakarta, sending office workers running into the streets in panic.

Several buildings collapsed in the towns of  Tasikmalaya and Bandung.
