Suicide Bomber Kills 23 in Pakistan's Northwest

Police in Pakistan say a suicide bomber has struck a busy market in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least 23 people.

Officials say the attacker targeted police watching a protest against power cuts in the city.  The rally was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami, a hardline Islamist party.

Police officers and protesters were among those killed in Monday's suicide blast.  At least 30 people were wounded.

Hours before, a bomb exploded outside the Police Public School in Peshawar, killing a boy and wounding 10 other people.  

Elsewhere in Pakistan's northwest, officials say a bomb destroyed two tankers carrying fuel for NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The fire caused by the blast also destroyed a truck and nearby shops in (the Takhtabeg area in) the Khyber tribal district.   

Khyber is on the main supply route for NATO troops in Afghanistan.  Militants are blamed for frequent attacks on NATO convoys traveling through the region.
