Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  John 14:27

Jesus bequeathed peace to every believer.really.He really did!  Not many people in the world today would be characterized as peaceful.  The Apostle Paul characterized those who do not have a saving faith in Jesus as those who do not know the way of peace.

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.  Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways: and the way of peace have they not known:  Romans 3:11-17

By simple observation it is safe to say that many people around us are distraught, frustrated, unhappy, afflicted and bound.  Some to the point of being sick and diseased.  Most around us do not walk in the way of peace at all.  To discover the way of peace, and then to walk therein is the greatest healing therapy for body, mind and spirit.

Peace begins with Jesus.  When the good news of the gospel is embraced, peace with GOD is made.  Peace is the result of being justified before GOD.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  Romans 5:1

There is no real peace for those who do not accept the grace of GOD because of the object that separates them from GOD.that is sin.  Worry, fear, grief, guilt, and regret are a result of insecurity with GOD.  The relationship with GOD is inadequate.  There can be no approach to the glory of GOD.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

The first experience of someone who repents of sin and trusts Jesus with his eternal destiny is peace.  Sins are forgiven; obstacles and barriers to GOD are removed.  When someone finds they are completely loved and accepted and finally secure with their maker the result is peace.

Maintaining the peace is then the issue.  Jesus gave us peace in the first place and now is our example.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.  Matthew 11:30

Jesus believed, trusted and obeyed.  To live in peace we should do the same.  But there are threats to the gift that Jesus gave us.

Peace is threatened by sin.

Sin destroys our fellowship with GOD.  Sin brings guilt to the conscience.  If sin persists it can change the condition of the heart to turn from GOD altogether.  But if we confess our sins he forgives them and fellowship with GOD is continued.  With fellowship comes peace.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Peace is threatened by dissatisfaction expressed through grumbling and murmuring.

The Israelites grumbled and ended up wandering in the desert for forty years.  Trust GOD with everything that's is yours.  Don't find yourself "wandering in the desert".  Trust God with all the circumstances of life.  With trust comes peace.

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: Philippians 2:14

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Peace is threatened by reverting back to an unrenewed mind.

What do you do about the cares of life?

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 
1 Peter 5:7

What is the cure for anxiety?

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:25-33

If the Word of GOD has renewed your mind, why revert back to other ways?  Why stop the renewing process?  With a renewed mind comes peace.

Peace is threatened by people.

Some are never at peace because time is spent in self-pity and blame of what others have done, are doing or will do in the future. 

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.  Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.  Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.  Romans 12:18-21

Commit other people to GOD.  Believe that GOD can take care of the "other guy".  With belief comes peace.

Peace is threatened by focusing on temporal conditions.

The events around us seem to be becoming more and more threatening.  World conditions continue to deteriorate.  Terrorism seems to be everywhere.  Life is tough at times.   Be assured.GOD has your future well in hand.

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.  I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.  He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.  My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.  Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.  They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves.  My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.  Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.  I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.  For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.  Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57

Let your heart be stable and fixed in the Lord.  Let your heart be so fixed in the Lord that you sing and praise.  With praise comes peace.

Jesus gave peace to you.  Do not let your peace be threatened.  Get your piece of peace and don't let sin, murmuring, an unrenewed mind, other people or the world around you take that peace from you.  His peace is available to you each and every day of your life.  It's up to you whether you live in it or not.  It's a matter of choice.
